I am touched and highly inspired by how many school children study in adverse situations with limited resources but they still dream high. The children we met were excited, well-behaved and took the initiative to work with us. It was good to see their co-operation and their attitude; they seemed to have no complaints and were always smiling. I am inspired to do my bit for the community and under-privileged people.

Our commitment to the environment

We aim to develop the next generation to become responsible, influential and inspiring leaders. One of the greatest challenges we are facing as a population is environmental change. It is our aim to instill a sense of awareness in children today, from the youngest Nursery or primary student to the oldest IB student, so that they can start to reduce their carbon footprint and help to protect the earth for tomorrow. We believe that awareness needs to be accompanied by the ability to take informed action, both locally and on global issues.

We have introduced a new initiative called “CAS CONNECT” which will allow for a stronger and more sustainable commitment of students across the Secondary School to a genuine outreach programme. The initiative will be led and planned by students of Year 11 who spend the first week of their academic year working with a number of NGOs that deal with children and environmental issues.

Conscious of our carbon footprint (the school had undertaken a carbon audit exercise with a team of external consultants), we are committed to making The British School an environmentally sustainable or ‘green’ school, as far as we can. We are associated with a number of NGOs, including the World Wildlife Fund and passionate environmentalists run the Environment Club at school. The environment is about people, places, and spaces, not just the physical environment. We believe in the power of education in helping young people to shape their future environments in an informed and socially just manner.
