Health, Security & Safety
Students’ Health
The health of each student is a priority to us. Not only as a concern for their general wellbeing but because the health of a child is an important factor in the learning process.
The Primary and Secondary Schools have well-equipped health rooms which are staffed by three fully qualified nurses. They are available during school hours to administer first aid and basic nursing care to any student injured or feeling unwell. The nurses also undertake height, weight and basic visual acuity tests of each child on an annual basis. In addition to their routine nursing duties they are actively involved in all aspects of school life, including school trips, sports days and health education.
Over eighty members of our teaching and administration staff are trained in First Aid and emergency resuscitation.
In case of an emergency
The health rooms carry emergency resuscitation equipment for use in case of a life threatening illness and the school has an official arrangement with Primus Hospital for the immediate treatment and/or admission of both students and staff in case of a medical emergency. The hospital is located two minutes away from the school and an ambulance is available at all times.
Students’ Security
We take the security of our school and students very seriously. As a result we regularly review our security practices, both inside and outside the school grounds and building. Whether our students are in class, on a school trip or at a sports day, we implement strict security measures to protect them at all times.
Most of the security services are outsourced to Group 4, a leading international security group, and we have regular input, assistance and feedback from the Security Officer at The British High Commission. CCTV has been installed throughout the building and the perimeter wall is of maximum height permitted by the local authorities with razor wire to prevent unauthorised entry to any part of the school.
The guards are equipped with two-way radios, metal detectors for bag searches, batons, and have a telephone at each main gate. Regular supervisory visits from Group 4 as well as regular Diplomatic Police visits are made throughout every 24 hour period. Regular fire drills are also carried out throughout the school building.
A formal written agreement has been made with the neighbouring American Embassy School that, in the event of a major security threat, we are permitted to use their campus across the road until it is safe to return to our own campus.
Security entrance passes
All parents must carry and show a named parent pass and sign in; all visitors must sign in and be issued with a Visitor’s Pass. There are no exceptions.
Visitor rules
All visitors are required to wait at the gatehouse and are met by the person responsible for the appointment, either at the (air conditioned) gate house or, if the guards have previous information about an appointment, visitors are asked to proceed to the Reception area where they are picked up and escorted to the relevant department. No-one is allowed entry without an appointment and the guards only allow anyone in after checking with the concerned staff.
Entrance areas
All gates remain locked throughout the day. One guard and one CCTV supervisor are posted at the main entrance (Gate No. 2) at the main school building. One guard is posted at Gate 0 at the Primary building. Regular daily and night patrols take place, both inside and outside the grounds.
Parking
Parent vehicles parked outside the school are required to have a school parking pass displayed on the window if they are parked for any lengthy period of time (i.e. more than a few hours).
Staff vehicles parked inside the school grounds are also required to have the same parking pass. The parking passes are issued by the Community Relations Office in the main school building, upon completion of a form that identifies the car registration number and personal contact details of the owner.
Safety measures
In case of an emergency, the following facilities and resources (outside the school) will be used:
• Primus Super Speciality Hospital (two minutes drive from the school).
• Chanakyapuri Police Department.
• Chanakyapuri Fire Department.
