The school year runs
from the beginning of August until the end of May
the following year.
Admission is based on the published criteria (the
admissions categories) and the ability of applicants
to demonstrate that they can complement the
international character of the school’s student
population. We are an international school, serving
an internationally-mobile community as well as
serving longer-term, Delhi residents. Because of
this, we welcome applications throughout the year.
However, to manage the bulk of applications, the
admissions window runs annually from the beginning
of January to the end of March. We strongly
recommend all applicants register for admission
during this window when admissions screening takes
place, seats are allocated and the waiting list is
updated. The school follows prioritisations as per
its admissions policy.

Please note that we give preference to siblings of
students already enrolled in the school.
Previous school records are considered, as is
academic competence. Preference will be given to
candidates who can demonstrate an ability to follow
a British or international curriculum or who already
have experience of the curriculum taught in the
school.
Every intended student MUST be registered with us on
our Waiting List to be considered for admission.
Please study the
age versus class guide
.
We endeavour to keep
students of the same age in the same class, where
possible. While your child may be in a different
class or grade in their current school, we will
always refer to this policy when deciding which
class they should attend in The British School, New
Delhi.
Students must undergo an admissions test, which
consists of a simple age-appropriate oral and
written question and answer session with a member of
the teaching staff. This helps us to know each
student's capabilities and if there are any special
needs of which we need to be aware. Admission
assessments are necessary for all students entering
Year 7 - Year 10, in which a mark of 50% must be
obtained in both English and mathematics. Pending
successful assessment results and seat availability,
admission will be offered.
Year 10 students must take a General Science paper,
in addition to the mathematics and English paper.
Year 11 and Year 13 are not entry points for any
student unless they are coming from the same
examinations system, in which case they will be
considered as transfer students. Year 11 is the
second half of the IGCSE course (comprising Years 10
& 11) and Year 13 is the second half of the IB
course (comprising Years 12 & 13). An assessment is
usually necessary for transfer students. It is
important to provide us with most recent school
reports to determine if an admissions assessment is
necessary.
Students must provide at least 3 years previous
school reports (beginning with the most recent) and
examination students must keep us informed of any
“mock” IGCSE results.
All assessments may take place either in The British
School in Delhi, or in the student's current school,
with the approval and supervision of an invigilator.
We will require the name, phone number and e-mail
contact details of the teacher with whom we will
liaise regarding assessment to be supervised in
other schools.
