Physical
Education
The British
School has designed a comprehensive Physical
Education programme to provide a supportive
environment where students can understand the value
of physical activity and its contribution to a
healthy life style. The students are given the
opportunity to work towards developing competency in
a variety of physical activities through
participation in indoor and outdoor sports, aerobics
and rhythmic exercises, Yoga and in inter-house and
inter-school tournaments. Content units are designed
to enhance fitness levels and enable students to
expand their knowledge about rules, strategies and
sportsmanship. Cooperation and peer support are
emphasized throughout the semester to build positive
social interaction. Our goal for each student is to
develop personal lifetime fitness habits that are
associated with current health concepts on the
wellness continuum.
The health
and wellness lessons consist of interrelated
subjects that support positive choices and skills
necessary to achieve and maintain a healthy life
style. Students have access to a large scale of
sports activities which take place beyond school
hours and on weekends regularly.
Drama
The Drama department at The British School plays an
exciting and integral role in the development of all
students. We offer a varied and culturally rich
curriculum throughout Key Stage three that provides
the students with challenging and creative lessons.
Ranging from Mask work to Melodrama students explore
and discover the elements of theatre; building
their confidence, self-esteem and interpersonal
skills that will enhance their educational
experience.
At Key Stage 4 we offer IGCSE, a two year course
where there is opportunity to explore in more detail
text work and group projects, encompassing the
elements of creating theatre. Students perform
throughout the two year course and through
explorative strategies and research, develop strong
performance skills.
IB Theatre Arts is offered at Key Stage 5 and we
have enjoyed successful results. The course
encourages students to make strong links between
research, experience and knowledge. The level of
study prepares the student for further education in
the Arts and develops the ‘practitioner’ in them.
The school has strong links with ISTA and the
school recently hosted the ISTA festival which
brought practitioners and students from around the
