Board of Governors
The British School, New Delhi is owned and operated by The British School Society, an Indian registered body which comes under the purveyance of several state and national laws of the country and their respective ministries. The Society is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 an act that defines and regulates non-profit institutions involved in the promotion of non-commercial causes such as education, art and sport. The President of The British School Society is the British High Commissioner appointed to India at the time. The school through its President, the Board of Governors, the Director, the Head of Business and Finance, the Human Resources Director and its specially appointed auditing and legal firms, conducts liaison work with the relevant Ministries and bureaucratic offices on the several relational issues arising from the school’s registration as an Indian society. The school is thus able to offer an international curriculum and education to the expatriate community and nationals alike, while continuing to operate within the legal and statutory framework of the country.
Membership to the Society is obligatory for parents and guardians of children attending The British School, New Delhi. The overall responsibility for the management of the Society and of the School is entrusted to a Board of Governors, consisting of the Director of the School; elected representatives of the parent body of both primary school and secondary school students; one primary and one secondary elected teacher representatives and co-opted members selected by the elected members of the Board of Governors.
