Having worked as a teacher’s assistant in other jobs and internships, I really appreciated the faith and confidence that the British School had in the interns allowing us full control in many of the classrooms. I was encouraged not only to develop lesson plans on my own, but was also asked to teach subjects that were not in the curriculum, but were of personal interest, such as film.

The teachers have a very stable tenure in The British School. The school believes in investing in its human resources. Continually maintaining and improving standards of its teachers and other staff is of foremost importance to the school. The School is committed to ensuring international standards of professional competence. To this effect an annual performance development system has been put in place for all levels of staff. It is also committed to the continuous professional development (CPD) of its staff and to invest in the knowledge, understanding and skills of staff as learners for life.

A collegial way of working, empathy, consistency in approach and maintaining high standards are the basic tenets of the HR practices followed at The British School which help, in turn,  to achieve and promote an environment of consistent high quality in learning and teaching.

The British School is committed to achieving equality of opportunity in the recruitment and selection of staff. We recruit and retain the best possible staff. Teaching positions are filled locally as well as internationally while most of the administrative positions are filled locally.

Staff employed at the school must meet the highest standards of responsible and respectful behaviour. The actions and behaviour of staff affects the well being of the whole community.

Staff behaviour is governed by a Staff Code of Conduct which clearly outlines the behaviour that is required of all staff in the performance of their duties and when interacting with wider community. Staff members are accountable to students and their families, colleagues and the wider community. Consequently, staff must be aware of their responsibilities and accountabilities in interactions and relationships with one another.
