Student Council and Co Council
The Student Council and the leadership programme helps develop strong leadership skills and give student voice a genuine place in the running of the school. Members of the prestigious Student Council are drawn from Years 10 and 12 and are elected through fiercely contested elections. They receive leadership training and work to support staff and students.
A Key Stage 3 Co-Council works with the Student Council. The Co-Council is made up by students from Years 7 – 9 who meet regularly with the Student Council. The Co-Council also feed back to their year groups with any concerns or issues which are then discussed. A clear pathway of communication between the Co-Council and Student Council has been established through regular meetings and open discussions. Events are planned thoroughly and issues relating to school and student matters are discussed in a focused environment. Regular meetings are held throughout the term and the council report regularly to the leadership team with areas to discuss.
A budget is allocated to the Council which gives them further responsibilities for planning and organisation. The Student Council and Co-Council members are given the responsibility of looking after student welfare and enrichment through organising activities like Sports Day, Cross Country, Dances, Back to School for parents, Battle of the bands, Teachers’ Day assembly, Teacher/ Student Quiz, Prom, Workers’ Appreciation Day, Diwali celebration for the support staff, Blue Print magazine, Year Book , Bake sales and many more.
