The teachers let the children experiment and encourage them to discover what they are good at. My daughter found new levels of confidence and she had loads of fun.

The heart of the school
The library is a source of information, wisdom and inspiration. We encourage students of all ages to take full advantage of it to help them develop life-long skills to set their foundation in this Information Age. The Primary School has a modern automated library which holds a central position, both in location and in the curriculum. Its comprehensive collection of resources is available for use by all members of the school for study, personal, recreation and relaxation purposes.

Students from non-English speaking backgrounds are encouraged to maintain literacy in their first language, which is supported by a growing collection of books in 4 languages. The library has access to a network of 20 wireless laptops which are used for public access searches, word-processing, graphics and information gathering.

The Information Skills Programme
The library has a documented Information Skills Programme designed to teach students how to access, use and communicate information. The programme is a continuum which is integrated into the curriculum and reinforced through all year levels. It is aimed at developing confident, independent learners for life.

Opening Times
The Library is open between 7:30am to 8:00am; during first break from 10:00am to 10:30am; and 2:00pm to 3:30pm Monday-Friday on school working days.
Each class has a weekly borrowing session. Staff and students can also borrow at first break (10:00am – 10:30am) or in the 30 minutes before and after the school day. During second break students may read, research and draw in the library.
Parents may visit the library to read to their children between 2:00pm and 3:30pm Monday-Friday on school working days.

There is a teacher librarian to assist in locating information and to borrow resources.

How many items can you borrow and for how long?
Books may be borrowed for one week and they can be returned or changed earlier if so desired. All books must be returned before the summer vacation.

Students of Reception may borrow one book at a time, Years 1 to 6 may borrow one fiction and one non-fiction book and teachers may borrow 15 books.

What happens if a book is late, lost or damaged?
A reminder sticker is put in the student diary, an overdue note is sent home or a letter asking for payment is sent home. If a book is damaged, please return it to school so we can try to repair it. If it is beyond repair, an account may be sent home.

Students are taught how to care for books and have to follow a clear guideline on the ‘do’s and don’ts’ in the Library.
