I had never considered being a teacher, but the experience here definitely makes me consider the job for a later stage in life. It has also convinced me to apply for more teaching positions during my gap year. I feel that my presentation and communication skills have been enhanced by teaching on a daily basis. My ability to structure and simplify an argument, as well as to improvise and debate has definitely improved.

Special Education Needs (SEN)

We give each child the attention s/he requires.
The Student Support Services team of the Primary School works collaboratively with other team members, class teachers, specialist teachers, teaching assistants and parents to support learning and emotional needs of students.

The Special Needs department of the Primary School meets the needs of all students with mild to moderate learning difficulties either throughout or at anytime of their stay in school.

Three levels of support in the Primary School.
In Level 1, the students are supported all the time in mainstream classes with differentiation in the classroom, and students are withdrawn for less than an hour in a week.

In level 2, the students are identified as having needs that require individual support for more than an hour but less than 5 hours. These students opt out of foreign languages.

In level 3, the students seem to have significant difficulties which cannot be supported in mainstream classes so they are withdrawn for support for more than 5 hours and mainstreamed when they are ready.

How does the SEN Department help?
The SEN Department develops Individual Education Plans (IEP)/ Student Support Plans (SSP) which are reviewed twice a year.   The mainstream teachers, parents and administrators are invited for the meeting to contribute to the students’ plan. A copy of these plans is given to concerned teachers and parents and the original is filed in the students’ folders maintained by the department.

Many students have special education needs of some kind at some time during their education. We aim to help most students overcome their difficulties quickly and easily but a few students will need extra help for some and all of their time in school.

In the Primary school, the Principal and Vice Principal along with the Student Support Services (SSS) Coordinator undertake the overall responsibility for individual needs.
