I had never considered being a teacher, but the experience here definitely makes me consider the job for a later stage in life. It has also convinced me to apply for more teaching positions during my gap year. I feel that my presentation and communication skills have been enhanced by teaching on a daily basis. My ability to structure and simplify an argument, as well as to improvise and debate has definitely improved.

Special Education Needs (SEN)

The Special Educational Needs (SEN) Department is dedicated to helping students with mild to moderate learning difficulties.sujatha_ramanan

Students can enter the SEN programme at any time of the year or remain on it throughout their educational career. Our admissions policy requires parents to declare if their child or children have any special learning needs.  Apart from normal admission tests, the school also requires standardised assessments (psycho-educational reports) to assess the needs of a child and to see if s/he would benefit from the programme. The SEN department has a referral process in place to refer existing students at any time of the year.

Students with learning difficulties are in mainstream classes for a greater part of the school day.  In Key Stage 3, they may be withdrawn from one or two of the foreign languages to receive individual support. In Key Stage 4 and 5, they may opt for fewer IGCSE and IB subjects and their free time is used for individual support.

All students taking part in the SEN programme will have a negotiated Individual Education Plan (IEP) based on diagnostics. It is developed by the SEN Department in joint collaboration with teachers, parents and students, wherever appropriate.
The IEP includes the student’s individual targets (communication, literacy, numeracy, behaviour, social skills), strategies to achieve the target and criteria for evaluation of progress.

Students taking IGCSE and IB exams are given examination support depending on their needs and subject to the approval of the examination board.
