Sports and Physical Education
Physical Education (PE) develops student competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school.
Our high-quality PE curriculum enables students to develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully.
Examination courses are offered for:
- CIE IGCSE Physical Education
- IB Sports Exercise and Health Science
EYFS & Key Stage 1: Nursery to Year 3
- Focus on the ABC of movement (Agility, Balance and Coordination)
- Develop physical literacy
Examples:
Athletics, gymnastics, outdoor adventurous activities (OAA), team building, games, fitness and swimming
Key Stage 2: Years 4 – 6
- Develop a broader range of skills
- Apply, transfer and link these skills together
- Learn how to work both collaboratively and competitively with each other
- Inter form and inter house competitions and outdoor and adventurous activities during trips
Examples:
Swimming, lifesaving, personal survival, athletics, T-ball, gymnastics, net/court/wall games, games, fitness, invasion and target games, striking and fielding, OAA, hockey (Year 6), team building (Year 4) and fitness (Year 4)
Key Stage 3: Years 7 – 9
- Build on and embed the physical development and skills learned in KS2
- Learn to use a range of tactics and strategies
- Develop leadership and coaching skills
Examples:
Swimming, athletics, table tennis, gymnastics, volleyball, handball, netball, lifesaving, personal survival, rounders, cricket, badminton, hockey
Key Stage 4: Years 10 and 11
- Build on and embed the physical development and skills learned in Key Stage 3
- Develop their range of tactics and strategies
- Implement leadership and coaching skills
Examples:
Sports: swimming, athletics, table tennis, volleyball, handball, netball, lifesaving, personal survival, rounders, cricket, badminton, hockey
Key Stage 5: Years 12 and 13
- Focus on health and wellbeing
- Encourage students to become lifelong participants of a healthy and active lifestyle
